Lions

The girls,

Out in the field,

Rushing the defences,

Stabbing at the guts,

Running rampant,

Breaking records,

Don’t do it to become,

Second,

Don’t do it to become,

Last,

Don’t do it to become,

Legends,

Those girls,

Out in the field,

Don’t do it,

Sweating,

Bleeding,

Pouring their hearts out,

Their life draining from them,

Don’t do it to become,

Champions,

Don’t do it to become,

Stars,

Don’t do it to become,

An instant success,

Those girls,

Out in the field,

Their family surrounding them,

Their friends in awe,

Peering out from the trees,

Half a foot out,

Half a foot in,

Ready to acknowledge,

Ready to take the cheer,

Ready to receive,

Ready to give it back,

Ready to,

Get back into the real world,

And do it all again.

Worn out

From all her tasks,

Her chores,

Wiping her out,

Her head,

Nodding,

Bouncing,

Trying to stay up,

She drifts,

Like that eagle,

Soaring,

High above,

In the heavens,

She sees,

The ant’s

Below,

She touches,

The stars above,

She soars,

Riding the waves,

With barely a beat,

Of her giant wings,

Floating,

Endlessly,

From horizon to horizon,

Into day,

And out into night,

She soars,

Not wanting to turn,

Not wanting to dive,

To feed,

Not wanting to dive,

To drink,

Her body,

Maybe there,

Pulsating,

Lying still,

Her eyelids,

Folded flat,

Drool,

Seeping from the corner of her mouth,

Yet,

Her mind,

Soaring high above,

Singing,

The Eagles greatest hits,

Soars,

Not a thought,

To be made,

Not a care to be had,

Just peace,

Just content,

Rushing past,

Rushing in,

Gently pushing

Against her wings.

Solitaire,

Knows no other,

Solitaire,

With all his Kings,

Queens,

Jack’s

And Aces,

With all his numbers,

1-10,

With all his hearts,

Diamonds,

Clubs,

And spades,

Learn from the very best,

The bees,

Out collecting nectar,

For the hive,

And the ants,

Carrying their food,

Home,

Back for the queen,

Learn from the very best,

That lion,

Basking,

Lying in the grass,

While the zebra’s rush past,

Waiting,

For that young one,

That one,

That’s a bit lame,

Learn from the best,

She,

Sits there,

Her mind,

Slowed,

Her heart,

Pumping,

With her feeling each beat,

Waiting,

The clock,

Frozen still,

She gives lessons,

To Solitaire,

To the bees,

To the ants,

To the lions,

On how to be,

Of what is a virtue,

And what is not,

And they listen,

Birds are heard singing,

In the background,

But they don’t move,

Not even an inch,

They learn,

From her,

Who is the very best.
